Links lets you have a directory of hyperlinks to other sites with categories and subcategories similar to Yahoo. Its comes with its own search engine, separate from the content of the site.
Ideally, a site owner will be the one who submits a link. This will show them as the owner of that link in the database. However, in many cases links have been added to a site without the owner knowing about it. This is especially true with large companies.
When an admin adds links, it is recommended that the company name or site name be entered under Name and an e-mail address of the company entered under e-mail address. If none can be found, webmaster, info or sales @ the company domain are usually valid addresses. Doing this has the added benefit of notifying the company or web site owner that you have added a link to their site. They may in turn add a link to your site. At the very least, by you making them aware of the link, they can notify you of any changes to their site in the future.
To notify the site whose link is being added, be sure to add a link as any other user might. If links are added via the admin section, no notification is sent to the site that a link was placed to their site.
Add a Main Category: You must create a main category. Enter it in the Name field and ignore the category field, which will be blank initially. Add a description if you like. Click on Add. The main categories will be alphabetically sorted on the Links main page and arranged in a 2 column table. Main categories can have as many sub-categories as you want.
Add a Sub-Category: Enter the subcategory name in the Name field and then select the category you wish to place it under. As only the first level is alphabetized regardless of the order of entry, it is advisable to first write out the sub level categories you wish to use and enter them in order. This allows you to have sublevels alphabetized.
Add a New Link: Enter the page title and URL. You may add an image if it is present in the upload/wl directory or choose empty.gif to display none at all,. If you do not choose empty.gif or another image, the text "no image available" will appear to the left of the entry. Select the category or category/subcategory from the dropdown list that you wish to place the link in. Add a description of the site (useful descriptions are suggested over promotional ones). Enter the name of a contact person under Name or use the site or company name if no contact person is known. Enter an e-mail address of the company entered under e-mail address. If none can be found, webmaster, info or sales @ the company domain are usually valid addresses. Doing this has the added benefit of notifying the company or web site owner that you have added a link to their site. They may in turn add a link to your site. At the very least, by you making them aware of the link they can notify you of any changes to their site in the future.

Modify a Category: This allows you to change a category or subcategory name or description. Select the category you want to modify, make changes and save it.
Modify a Link: This gives access to the information about each link and enables modifying it or deleting it as well as adding editorial comments about it. At the bottom of the Main links categories page, select the link to be modified from the dropdown list, and click on Modify. Make any desired changes and click on Modify to save the changes or Delete if you wish to delete the link. On sites with hundreds of links, it may be helpful to get the link number by passing one's cursor over the link. This can save scanning a long list to find the right link. The number prior to the page extension is the link number.
Links waiting for validation: If a visitor submits a new link, you will see a new box in the web links admin section. You can make any pertinent changes, visit (validate) the link and then approve and publish in the search engine. You can also delete the new link submission if you don't want to publish it. If you approve and publish the new link and the field Email is filled in, that address will receive an email message notifying them of the addition of their link.
Broken link reports: Each link has a Report broken link link at the bottom of it. If a user has reported a broken link, the number of broken links reported will appear here. The name of the link and who reported it appears. The name of the link is linked to the site being reported. Be sure to check each one as some will be valid. In such cases the user had difficulties in accessing the site and mistakenly assumed the link was broken. You may click on Ignore and the link will remain. If you find the link is genuinely broken, click on delete to remove it.
Link modification requests: This shows the number of requests from people responsible for a site to modify the information about it, typically the description. You may approve or reject the proposed modification or even modify their proposal and then approve the new listing.
