Add-ons - personal equipment

After define our kernel we can form our main distribution. As I talked about in chapter 3, a distribution includes:

  1. The kernel
  2. several addons
  3. nice and powerful Autotheme-skins

The definition for our main distribution is called "MDPro [version no.]". This package includes most of the functionalities which we are knowing from prior versions and other projects like Envolution and PN. But remember what I was talking about: This distribution includes more than one package.

How we can realize it?
First of all the user has to download and install the kernel package. This package includes a complete new installation routine. This installation program gives the user the possibility to select all modules he want to install, what settings he needs for his side and what primary contents he want to publish. It should be a step-by-step procedure as we have had now, but more flexible.
For every selected addon the user get some more details to consider:

  • "before installation"
  • "during installation"
  • "after installation"
  • package details (like RPM for Redhat-Linux)

But as everybody know, it is impossible to include all nice modules and goodies in one package. There are too much developed all over the world. But the kernel of MDPro is very flexible and the user can select many of them (nearly 98%) coded for PN, Envolution and/or MDPro.
When we are thinking of all of the professionals who want to use MDPro, we can predefine some packages to make it easier for them to get the best addons which are 100% compatible.

Of developers view we can solve it as follows:

  • Find modules for needed tasks without changing anything (i.e. subjects).
  • Find modules and code little modifications to make them 100% compatible (i.e. Arena forum).
  • Find programs and code a bridge for inclusion (i.e. phprojekt).
  • Recode modules completly

An other possibility is to include external programs over i.e. PostWrap. But this is not a developers solution, it is only a workaround.
