Terminology

Duster

This list of terms is presented as an aid to our developers, most of whom speak English as a secondary language, and to the many third party module developers to whom English is a secondary language as well. The English language has so many irregularities that it is easy to understand why some errors are made. The purpose of this guide is to minimize them. More terms will be added as needed and suggested.

We should also standardize the text on the following buttons :

  • Submit: only when submitting content that will be or can be displayed, i.e. article, faq, content page, etc .. For the FAQ module in particular, it would look much better than the "add/edit/delete/etc..." button.
  • Save: only when saving a configuration, a setup or variables in the db. No need to say "save modifications" or something else, save is explicit enough.
  • Execute: shoudn't be used. Use "Save" instead.
  • Commit: shouldn't be used. Use "Save" instead.

Also, when refering to the configuration of the module, use the word "configuration", not "set up" or "options" etc ...

Finally, the call to the "Online Manual" should be changed to just "Manual" as one doesn't need to be online to access it (i.e. on local installation or intranet) and it could mislead some users.

subscriber, subscribers, subscription (note the p in subscription instead of a b)
