Post subject: Some definition difficulties (spellcheck all words;)

Hi.

I`m doing translations on the downloads module and came across something i just cannot find a solution on. This is from the global.php:
Code:
define('_WEIGHNOTE','* NOTE: This resource weighs registered vs. unregistered users ratings');
define('_WEIGHOUTNOTE','* NOTE: This resource weighs registered vs. outside voters ratings');

Registered
unregistered
outside voters

Now what's the difference on unregistered and outside voters? Are they actually standing outside and cast the vote? What defines them?

I believe I can answer this one accurately. I know from the Links module that a ratings code for voting on (rating) a link can be placed on external (outside) sites. As the ratings module is hookable (meaning other modules can make use of it by hooking into it), I suppose the same applies to the downloads module, which is very similar to Links.

Doubtless you know what registered and unregistered users are. Outside voters would be those voting from another site using the ratings code placed on an external site.

I'll give you a theoretical example. Suppose you had a site all about the various wiki programs and visitors to your site could download the various programs from your site. You're running MDPro of course and have the ratings feature enabled for downloads (and links too). Now suppose the various wiki websites added the code to their sites so their visitors could vote (rate) their program, affecting the ratings for their respective programs on your site. They would all be external voters. This also should make clear why the ratings are weighed. Which program do you think DokuWiki (to pick a name at random) site visitors would vote for on that site?

On another matter, I think your statement about spellchecking words was a request so I did so. While I openly state that I will change subject lines when they are vague (posting guidelines ask people to be specific), I am much more subtle on the occasions I correct spelling and grammar. I don't usually mention it as I don't want to embarass anyone and they didn't ask for this service (you are a rare exception). I do it to help people, especially those to whom English is a secondary language. I want to help them in their learning of English. They have to pay attention though as I won't say anything about it. They have to re-read what they posted and notice the corrections to benefit from the corrections as I won't call attention to them.

Many non-native English speakers are better at spelling and often better at grammar than English only (or what passes for English) speakers as they learned it properly. I'm dumbfounded at the mistakes that so many native English speakers make on a constant basis. They are the ones that should apologize for their English, not those of you who speak it in addition to your own native language or other additional languages.

I like when people correct my grammer as long as it`s not in a IRC childish way. I try to pick up some proper engslish but find some sentence building stuff like, when to use (,), when to use they are, they`re, your, you`re etc etc. I now know the to use your and you`re. (saw it on friends when Ross educated Rachel i think it was )

Example i hope is correct:
You are pretty can be you`re pretty. It`s your birthday can`t be you`re. Right.

Anyway, i see in some post you wrote that alot is not a word. Picked up a new one for my writing vocabulary right there.

I now also know what the difference between the various voters, thanks!

You're very welcome. I'm glad to help people learn and now that I know you want your spelling and grammar corrected, I may do it more frequently. Just be sure to pay attention as I won't make mention of it .

As far as alot and loosing, the proper and real words are a lot and losing. One easy way to remember the proper use of lose and loose is this sentence: if you lose weight your pants may be loose around your waist.

Mistakes with contractions cen be reduced by separating them into the words they are contracted from. That would help reduce the problems with it's and its especially.

Your example shows that as well.

You are pretty can be you`re pretty. Correct. You are is contracted to You're

It`s your birthday can`t be you`re. Also correct because separating you're would make it
It's you are birthday, which is certainly not correct.
