Post subject: Which do I install first, MDPro 1.0.76 or MD Channel 1.21?

Hi, I was lead to MDPro and MD Channels by a discussion on opensourcecms.com http://opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=166&f unc=view&id=8088&catid=7

I was able to install MDPro 1.0.76, and have it up and running.

I then went looking for info on MD Channels, found and read both
http://www.maxdev.com/CMpro-v-p-57.phtml and http://www.maxdev.com/wiki/index.php/MDChannels_Installation

But each said to Download the latest Borobudur3D package from the downloads section at maxdev.com. I found Borobudur3D V1.1, but was given the file Cnl_Tools.zip.

I unzipped that file and then found it didn't have everything I was told to upload.

So, time for some more research and reading. After reading this thread http://www.maxdev.com/MDForum-viewtopic-t-5832.phtml , and others, I went looking for MDChannel files, and came accross MD Channel 1.21.

In it's Description, it tells you To update MDPro 1.074 version replace all files except the config directory files, run install.php then choose upgrade option.. I did this, and for the most part things went well.

But now I don't know if my site is a version 1.0.74, or 1.0.76. Should I install MD Channel 1.21, then upgrade with MDPro 1.0.76, or keep as I have done? Should I now install MDPro 1.0.76 as a upgraded?
Which is the best way for a new site? Since this is a fresh install, I can start over if that's best.

Thanks,
Tim

MDChannels is a seperate distribution to MDPro now, we really need to update that documentation. If you've only just done a fresh installation and want MDChannels functionality, I'd recommend just installing channels 1.21, at least then you'll know where you stand

For fresh install you don't need to install MDPro. MDChannel core files are exactly the same with MDPro except all channel functions. The differrent only in News, CMpro, MDForum modules where you can filter the content based on group viewer.

So in MDChannel you can get both, if you deactivate the channel then all functions are totally the same with MDPro.

In future release channel functions will be integrated to MDLite, and hopefully we can update the channel docs as well

Wow, both of you replied really fast.
Then I'll uninstall what i have, and do the fresh install of MD Channels 1.21.

Thanks,
Tim

this was info i didn`t know myself. So i`m going for the MDChannel 1.21 too. Good research holmantp:)

I have a small follow up question if you don`t mind.

I`ve been working (soon finished) on a translation of the 1.0.76 version and doing all modules. If i use the MDChannel instead, can i just use those lang packs or are there anything that is different? If the MDchannel is based on the 1.0.74 version i mean.

Hi Shorty,

There are some new definitions which I always locate it at the end for each lang file. It always has the prefix _CNL so you can use search function to find them.
