very good idea about taking out all of those useless modules. What would be a good idea though is to make all the ones you left out very easy to access and download off the MaxDev site (maybe just a list of common ones not included)

maybe some modules that almost never use such as quote , site referents , site stats , ... should not active unless admin want to use them. so it save time to deactive and remove.

Looks great. Rte and the news system look very good, and the template thing sounds (I have not tried it yet) great. Ratings and stats should be optional.
I wonder what md-comments will do different from the traditional comments + you may consider ezcomments. That is it Smile

mdcomments is a standalone module which is called from any other module as hook (mdcomments based on ezcomments). The same for the Ratings module. Both are fully API complient.
In the News module I only need one function call and both hookable modules (Ratings and mdcomments) are active.
It is very easy to use mdcomments and ratings also in other modules, like Reviews, Downloads, Weblinks, etc.
Other hookable modules will follow... This is the way we want to go.....

Sounds very good. One problem with current modules is that they are difficult if not impossible to hook (i have been trying, unsuccessfully) with reviews, for example. I look forward to try 1.1 out.

After having played with the demo for a while, a bunch of questions:

(1) You use a dynamic principal menu, there. Is this dynamenu? Will it be a standard feature of MD 1.1?

(2) Will RTE still allow for the selection of icons-functions to be shown? Will it be mozilla compatible?
Will it work as a hook, through activation, or both?

(3) In News, is the "archive" function native to news? Will it be customizable (one, two, three columns)? How well does it integrate to daily_archive?

(4) Also in News, I do not see a print icon... Is that function gone, or simply hidden in your configuration? Likewise, I would like to suggest pdf function (xpdf).

(5) Will md 1.1 be (as md1.06) pn-render compatible? As of now, ALL new PN modules are MD compatible insofar as pn-render is installed. And I doubt pn 0.8 will move much beyond pn-render as it is now.

(6) in credits, I do not see dyn-users. Is the funtionality of this module included in NS-Users?

Heh, other than asking when a public release will be made, and offer to help testing, if you need that, I think that that would be it for now Smile

No is not dynamic menu , we work around it lot of time before release of dynami menu, author of our Menus is Serg and soon we release a screenshot about it, is very very nice, admin can manage all menus directly from administration panel
Admin can add new link and decide if open it in new windows or not, if insert it in submenu, insert before, inserta after, select from list icon to add to each item, drop down menu to select to link in easy way news article, news topic, module or external link .... it is cross browser too Smile

Today i can say yes, but maybe is not necessary to install pnrender and make MD more slow because i think people are able to found same modules without pnrender, we think also about to write a tutorial to convert pnrender module to MD modules, but for today i don't see lot of modules to convert Smile

Yes is included

We release MD 1.1 when it is ready, we have changed lot of things and functions, structure, layout etc .... so we are unable today to say date of release.

Yes maybe soon we need people to test it, just write me a note to timax at maxdev.com if you want to be beta tester, but we need also help in communications, we need people able to write articles, news, tutorial bla bla bla in english language .....Smile)

Here are the answers for RTE and News modules:
dmiranda wrote:
(2) Will RTE still allow for the selection of icons-functions to be shown? Will it be mozilla compatible?

Yes and Yes and Yes Wink
As admin you can setup the toolbars completly. And the following is new:
1. Dynamic position of button-groups on the 3 toolbar-lines
2. Hide buttons for each user-group seperately
3. RTE is X-browser and X-platform compatible, means:
-- IE 5.5 SP1 + on Windows
-- Mozilla 1.3+ on Windows/Linux/MacOS
-- Firefox 0.8 on Windows/Linux/MacOS

not supported: Netscape (all versions), Opera, Konqueror, etc.

dmiranda wrote:

In News module you can move all articles to archive status. This archive is not the same as Daily_Archive. It only means that these articles are not shown directly on homepage or under topics/categories.
Daily_Archive module is no more part of the core. You can install it as a separate module. But as in prior versions of MDPro this module will be fully integrated as a powerful archive system (BTW: not only for News).
The columns feature is disabled at moment. But News module is not 100% finished. I hope I can activate it again before 1.1alpha release.

dmiranda wrote:

Hehehe..... The icon is wrong. Click on it and you can see the printable page. I will correct it asap.
The icon for "Send mail to a friend" is not visible because this module is not part of the core. If you installed it, you can see the "email"-icon.
PDF support will be included. The classes for it are still there but not active yet.

Many thanks for your test report. We need more help like that.
Come on everybody..... goto to our demo site and play around.

hm... You're becoming a regular Patrick Volkerding (That's a good thing)now aren't you TiMax?

I just hate it when people (i.e., Microsoft) create vaporware by announcing unrealistic release dates. Your simple statement of, "...when it is ready..." should be applauded and recognized for it's commitment to not serving the food until it's done Wink

Yah, we're all curious and anxious, but throwing a date out onto the table isn't really going to make a stable product appear any sooner than it's going to anyway, and if anything puts pressure on developers to release buggy betas.

Oh, and speaking of Patrick Volkerding, we should see, by my estimates, the release of Slackware Linux 10.0 in the next week or so Smile Just in the last week, those of us watching the changelogs over at http://slackware.com have witnessed the release of Slackware 10rc1 and rc2 - Just so you know TiMax, Patrick is pretty famous for not telling people when a release is immenent - he just announces it once it's available and then lets the frenzy begin when it's done Smile

Take care,

Bradley

The idea of a pn-render sanitizer manual would be great. May I suggest you comment on a simple module that, for the first time with pn-modules, I could not install on MD-Pro? Smile

pn[botlist] it is!
http://dev.pnconcept.com/Downloads-inde ... id-70.html

I think the problem is with some functions that are too heavily dependent on pn-render and pnadodb
Namely, $dbconn =& pnDBGetConn(true); (which in other recent pn-modules) I was able to replace with list($dbconn) = pnDBGetConn();

Cheers!

PS: also, please do check the exchange I had with Riklaunim and mli in
